SHS Hall of Fame
Historical Overview: The SHS Hall of Fame was activated in 2012 patterned after the IPS Hall of Fame, which was activated in 2006. Shortridge High School graduates were routinely selected for induction into the IPS Hall of Fame.
SHS was reactivated in 2009 as a high school, after a 28-year closure. In 2012, the SHSAA adopted the Hall of Fame to recognize our graduates using similar guidelines as the IPS Hall of Fame.
The SAA began accepting nominations for alumni who met similar guidelines; a committee of Board member volunteers and an alumna non-board member, developed a brief nomination form and volunteered to review each application received on an annual basis. It was determined that applications could be submitted on an annual basis with a deadline of December 31 as the annual cutoff.
The HoF committee reviews each application and supporting biography / resume by no later than February and make a selection/recommendation for HoF inductees. The newly selected inductees are recognized during the annual meeting of the SHSAA.
ALL-CLASSES REUNION HISTORICAL INFO
In as much as the IPS Hall of Fame was activated in 2006, the committee recommended to the Board of Directors that all of the IPS SHS Hall of Fame inductees be “grandfathered” into the SHS Hall of Fame in 2012. Responsibilities of HoF committee members:
- Four alumnae have served on the HoF selection committee—3 board members and one alumna volunteer. The selection meeting is held before end of February.
- Review submitted applications and supporting documentation
- NOTE: There is no limit by the SHS Board/Committee for the number of approved nominations annually
- Select / reject applications; hold rejected applications for up to 3 years
- Chair sends a letter to each approved candidate or inductee representative if the awardee is deceased with “next steps”
- Chair sends a letter to each non-approved candidate or nominator that might include a request for additional information
- The chair communicates directly with the approved candidates (or candidate representative) to obtain any additional information, photos, and provide the schedule for the induction ceremony.
